Decline & Transition
The Early Cheras declined around the 3rd century CE during the Kalabhra interregnum. The Chera line was revived in the 9th century CE by the Kulasekharas of Mahodayapuram, who made Malayalam the official language of administration and developed the unique temple art forms of Kerala.

Common Exam Traps
- Trap: Believing the Cheras ruled only modern-day Kerala. They also controlled parts of western Tamil Nadu (Kongu Nadu).
- Trap: Confusing Muziris (port of Cheras) with Korkai (port of Pandyas) or Poompuhar (port of Cholas). Muziris was on the Malabar (west) coast.
- Trap: Assuming Senguttuvan was the author of Silappadikaram. The epic was written by his brother, Ilango Adigal.
